Kingdoms
The kingdoms of the SCA all contain the laurel wreath of the SCA arms in their own arms somewhere, mostly resulting in rather confused designs with too many tiny charges. Indeed, especially this addition clutters up some basically nice arms. The Calontir arms, for instance, suppress their beautiful Calatrava cross into a tiny charge, which is a pity.

With my version of the laurel wreath these arms would look like this:

I wonder if it would not be a better idea to place the wreath around the shield. The crown, which many times is also a charge in a kingdom’s arms, could then go on top of it. This manner of composition has historical roots and produces a more balanced image.

The laurels could also be shaped as a more tight wreath, such as has been quite common in renaissance armory.

This results in a more compact coat of arms with more solid colour.

I suppose such a quite radical change in the SCA heraldic tradition will take some getting used to, but if the result is more pleasing to the eye and less anachronistic it can only be a good thing.
